Sega Finally Releases a Game Worth Noticing

For hardcore gamers Sega has been a disappointment. After the death of the Dreamcast Sega seemed to have lost it’s mojo. Most of it’s releases have been mediocre at best. A plethora of forgettable Sonic games and host of shoddy racing titles litter the video game landscape. It is odd then that once rivals, who both have issues putting out quality titles that are not on their 5th sequel, once again capture the attention hardcore gamers.
Madworld
Both companies have had issues with quality releases. Sega hasn’t released a note worthy title in years and the Wii has been plagued by shovelware ever since the release of Mario Kart. Too many hardcore gamers have nearly written both off. Sega is remember in fondness of glory days past and many a Wii sit on shelves collecting dust.

This March, Sega and Platinum Games will be dropping the most mindblowing and most needed Wii title ever. Madworld is a heavily stylized game in the comic book vein, complete with “POW” and “WHACK” word bubbles. The game is done in black and white with the only color to be had, by the sprays of blood and the occasional environmental element. This is a creative way to get around the limitations of the Wii. This comes as no surprise as Platinum Games talent pool consists of those who worked on Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. Some of the most critically acclaimed titles ever.

Madworld

Make no mistakes. Madworld is no family friendly Mario Galaxy. It comes complete with fatalities, an arm mounted chainsaw, and a giant dart board to pin your enemies against. Mayhem Abounds in Madworld.

If this title was released on any other console by any other publisher it would most likely have gotten a shrug, decent sales, and been quietly forgotten. But, this title is needed on so many levels. Sega needs this title to prove it is still has what it takes to make compelling games,. Nintendo needs this title to prove the Wii isn’t just a deposit for shovelware for Grandpa Joe and Little Timmy. Most importantly hardcore gamers need this title. Hardcore gamers the world over were pulled in by the Wii control scheme, but as time wore on the newness wore off. The hardcore gamers want to like the Wii but there hasn’t been any good titles for almost 8 months now. We will be following Madworld closely as launch approaches. Stay tuned for more updates.

  1. WHAT THE !?!!!

Seriously “Sega Finally Releases a Game Worth Noticing” ?!!

Virtua Fighter 5 - Highest Rated Fighting game this Gen
Valkyria Chronicles - Highest rated JRPG this Gen
House of the Dead:Overkill : Highest Rated On-rail shooter this gen
Yakuza Kenzan — Highest Rated PS3 game in famitsu before MGS4
Condemned 1, and 2(I know its 2nd party) - Great first person horro adventure
Medieval 2:Total war - AAA PC strategy game

etc…and here I am sure i forgot many

The guy who wrote the article is so unprofessional. They should re-check their site. SEGA is not just about sonic!

  2. 1. Virtua Fighter 5: Half a million sold. Ranks number because of lack of other entries

    2. Valkyria Chronicles: A JRPG which is largely a niche market now-a-days. Less than half a million sold.

    3. House of the Dead: Overkill Released 2 days ago

    4. Yakuza Kenzan: Not released in Europe or US

    5. Condemned 2: Barely a million sold over two platforms and nearly a year since release

    6. Medieval 2: Total War A more than forgettable PC title.

Sure Sega has put out more than Sonic games, but that isn’t the issue. None of these titles broke through to the mainstream, which is the issue.

  3. What?1
You were talking about the quality not sales:
“most of it’s releases have been mediocre at best”
Don’t try to change the subject, you haven’t even mentioned sales.

Also LOL @ “6. Medieval 2: Total War A more than forgettable PC title.”
You clearly don’t have any experience in the PC gaming world, you shouldn’t be allowed to post gaming news

  4. Here is the problem with relying on review scores
they are created during a time of maximium hype by people that have a vested interest in giving the game a high score (that is how the review copies keep rolling in). Assassins creed was given a near perfect but now that the hype has worn off everyone agrees it has abysmal game play. Same with GTA IV.

Panzer Dragon Saga, Shenmue are a decade in the past. You are bringing up games from the dreamcast, which is when I said, in the article, was the last time Sega made good games?

“while a lot of quality titles barely reaching the 500k ”

Nonsense. Far more quality titles sell than don’t, the difference of quality titles selling vs not is huge. List ten quality games that sold well and you will find them all within a year or two. Bioshock, Orange Box, Fallout 3, Oblivion, LBP, Crysis…. Make a list of ten games that should have sold but didn’t (widely accepted, not your opinion) and you will see it spans decades. Psychonauts, Grim Fandango, Good & Evil, Oddworld…….

You seem to be a big fan of J games and maybe that is why you are bent out of shape, but J games haven’t been mainstream for quite a while now. With the exceptions of the old standbys Resident Evil, Streetfighter, Tekken, Final Fantasy,Metal Gear Solid, etc
Even the japanese admit their titles are no longer popular with the mainstream. One of the games you brought up wasn’t even sold in 80% of the world market…..
